Porter, Malignaggi to Call Butterfly Brawl in Santa Monica

Two Former Champions Join the Butterfly Brawl Broadcast

Shawn Porter, known widely as Showtime, and two-division titleholder Paulie Malignaggi will lead the commentary team for this year's Butterfly Brawl, the boxing and music event returning to the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The pairing brings decades of combined ring experience to the call for a night built around undefeated fighters and rising contenders.

Porter, who held the IBF welterweight title in 2013 and the WBC welterweight title from 2018 to 2019, closed out a 36-fight professional career facing names like Errol Spence Jr., Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia. Since retiring from active competition, he has built a broadcasting career as a boxing analyst on FOX Sports' Inside PBC Boxing, working studio coverage across multiple FOX and FS1 PBC events.

Malignaggi, a two-division world champion who won the IBF junior welterweight title from 2007 to 2008 and the WBA welterweight title from 2012 to 2013, finished his 44-fight career with a record of 36-8 with 7 knockouts. His title run included victories over Lovemore N'Dou and Juan Díaz before he stopped Viacheslav Senchenko in the ninth round to capture the WBA welterweight belt in 2012. Since his 2017 retirement, he has continued working as a broadcast analyst for ProBox TV alongside Mike Goldberg and for BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing.

Music, Charity and a Boxing Legend's Support

Beyond the fights, Butterfly Brawl will once again blend boxing with live entertainment. Mixmaster Mike of the Beastie Boys returns to perform on August 22, joined by Stefano, Mellow Man Ace and A Lighter Shade of Brown. Undisputed three-division champion Terence "Bud" Crawford has vowed his support of the event and will be on hand for the night of fights.
