Denis Mądry brain surgery recovery: how WBC and boxing world are helping

Polish fighter continues his toughest battle yet after suffering a serious ring injury, as the boxing community unites behind his rehabilitation

A Fighter's Toughest Battle Yet

Boxing has always prided itself on standing by its own, especially when a fighter faces a struggle far removed from the ring. That spirit is now being called upon for Polish boxer Denis Mądry, who suffered a serious injury during a bout last January and has been fighting to recover ever since.

Mądry underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a hematoma and relieve swelling following the incident, then spent several months hospitalized as doctors worked to stabilize his condition. He has since moved into a dedicated rehabilitation program in Poland, where his recovery continues day by day.

Signs of Progress

Mądry is currently receiving specialized care at the Origin Rehabilitation Center in Otwock, Poland. Although he continues to deal with quadriparesis, a weakness affecting his limbs, his medical team and loved ones have noted several encouraging developments in recent months.

  • Physical progress: He has begun regaining mobility in his right arm and leg, though full independent movement remains a significant challenge.
  • Communication and strength: He is conscious, retains his memory, understands his surroundings, and communicates through gestures, nods, and words.
  • Nutrition: He is now able to feed himself and has gained weight, reaching 57 kg after overcoming the most critical stage of his recovery.

How the Boxing Community Can Help

The financial weight of long-term rehabilitation has fallen heavily on Mądry's fiancée and family, with monthly treatment costs reaching around $12,000 USD. In response, the WBC has stepped forward to call on fighters, fans, and sports lovers everywhere to contribute to his ongoing care.

Despite the physical hurdles still ahead, Mądry's clarity of mind and determination to keep pushing forward remain intact, offering hope to those following his recovery closely.
